Key practices for effective component handling

At pcbxpress, simplicity meets precision. Our Component Packaging Guidelines outline straightforward practices that contribute to the smooth handling and assembly of your printed circuit boards. Follow these guidelines to ensure a seamless and efficient manufacturing process.

The Do's & Don'ts of Components Packaging

Do's:

Provide Key Details Clearly: Make sure the Designator, Manufacturer Part Number (MPN), and quantity are prominently marked on the ESD bag or packaging.

Keep Original Packaging Intact: Maintain the original packaging for parts such as BGA, QFN, and QFP during shipment.

Protect Moisture-Sensitive Components: Store moisture-sensitive parts in their original packaging with indicators where applicable. If unavailable, use moisture barrier bags to avoid moisture damage during storage and transport.

Send Components on Reels: Ship components in reels according to the ordered quantity. Any extra parts will be returned along with your assembled boards.

Don'ts:

Notify About Alternate Parts or DNP: If intending to use alternate part numbers or mark some components as "Do Not Populate" (DNP), please notify us by email prior to sending. This ensures accuracy and smooth assembly.

Avoid Cutting Tape Into Small Sections: Please do not cut tape strips into small pieces. Refer to our minimum strip size guidelines for efficient processing.

Do Not Use Loose Packing for SMDs: Avoid packing SMD components loosely in bags, as this can cause problems during the assembly process.

Avoid Used or Corroded Components: Do not send used, desoldered, or oxidized components, since they may compromise the quality and reliability of the final assembly.

Separate Packaging by Designator: Place each designator’s components in individual ESD bags to reduce assembly errors and confusion.

Why Does Pcbxpress Require Extra Parts?: Each pick-and-place machine uses a feeder system that favors smaller batch sizes with minimal reel quantities, necessitating extra components.

In order to avoid delay and cost deviations, we strongly recommend you to send at least 3% quantity of small-sized SMD components (less than 04 mm in size) and for the through-hole parts 1% extra in case any discrepancies are identified during production and to streamline the process. You can refer to the table provided here for guidance on the additional quantities.

Mention the Manufacturing Part No. if the ESD Bag has not been dispatched with original packaging.

Complete the box sticker with your order number, total boxes, and individual box number for a smooth and organized delivery process.
